I was 18 years old when I first tried diet pills. I was complaining to a friend of mine about my weight. I wasn’t even fat then but my waistline was 26” bordering to 27”. I reckon I was watching too much television that somehow I began to think that to be svelte, women must have Betty Boop’s hourglass figure.
So my friend told me her little secret: Ionamin or Phentermine Resin, a prescription drug used to treat obesity. She said she knows a local pharmacy that sells all sorts of medicines even without prescription. I thought it was brilliant idea, I mean to lose weight without exercising or being tempted to binge -- that’s exactly what I wanted!
She warned me though that some people have actually been hospitalized for taking it. But I thought I could handle it and I did. Instead of taking it everyday, I was only taking it every other day or sometimes every after 3 days. It was so potent that its effect would actually last for at least 2 days anyway.
I lost a lot of weight after only a couple of weeks. I wasn’t bingeing but I was also barely eating. My mouth was always dry, I was always thirsty, my heart was beating fast most of the time and I couldn’t sleep yet I don’t feel tired or sleepy at all during the day. I was also having bouts of migraine.
Despite of the adverse effects however, I was happy. I feel energetic all the time. I can accomplish more tasks, and for the first time ever, I was actually wearing body fit clothes! And I’m thinking, dang, I look good!
I stopped taking the pill after I’ve reached my ideal size and I was able to maintain it for a long time -- well, not exactly. Whenever I felt that I’m gaining weight again or my nasty habit of bingeing on junk foods is getting more frequent, I’d buy a few more Ionamins to help me get back into shape.
After my marriage has broken down, I became very depressed and angry that I resorted to “comfort foods.” I binged for about two and a half years and I gained about 20 kilograms or roughly 44 pounds! I look and felt ugly but I continued with my lifestyle anyway. That was until I got hospitalized because my immune system was so low that an ordinary fever could have easily killed me.
So I persuaded (I reckon “begged” is more appropriate!) my friend who’s a doctor to give me a prescription because this dodgy pharmacy where I used to get my Ionamins has closed down. And within five months after taking it again and playing badminton 2 or 3 times a week, I lost 14 kilograms or 30.8 pounds of excess fat.
I have tried other slimming pills in the past and I will be discussing more of them in future posts. In my experience however, Ionamin has been by far the most effective. It’s unfortunate that they don’t make them anymore because it has been banned from the market…
